Heavy legs
The term is symbolic of "legs filled with water that have to carry a heavier load". The term "tired legs" is also used synonymously.
Heavy legs
occur at a younger age, mainly due to a weakened drainage of body water, typically as a result of prolonged sitting or standing, especially at high temperatures. The cause may be trivial, but some people are predisposed to edema (swelling, water retention) in the legs from an early age. Even at a young age, there are already signs of varicose veins, which can be the cause of complaints without any noticeable symptoms. Even spider veins can cause swelling in some people if they are found in large numbers in the leg. Often there does not even have to be any visible swelling and yet people still have symptoms.
Therapy for heavy legs
The best and quickest way to help is to move your legs, elevate them or "quench" them with cold water. If varicosis (varicose veins) or extensive spider veins are the cause, treatment by means of surgery or sclerotherapy is the measure of choice. Over the last 15 years, we have seen many patients who are now free of symptoms or have significantly fewer symptoms after appropriate treatment.
Heavy legs
can have a variety of other causes, however, especially if they occur on one side, they should be taken very seriously. And as we get older, our legs tend to become heavy and tired earlier and earlier. If you not only feel heavy legs, but also experience other symptoms, a vascular specialist/vein specialist is required. You can find further information here >>
