Venous inflammation - thrombophlebitis
Venous inflammation, known as thrombophlebitis in technical jargon, is the most common complication of varicose veins and leads the patient to the doctor - albeit usually late.
This is usually a spontaneous painful inflammation of superficial veins, in this case varicose veins, varicose veins, the cause of which is not really detectable. Venous inflammation is most commonly found in hospital, occurring after prolonged intravenous cannulas in the arm, as part of long-term infusions (3 days or more).
In principle, phlebitis is not a dangerous disease of the veins, but it is painful and takes days to weeks to finally heal or become symptom-free. Local treatment with leech preparations, systemic therapy with anti-inflammatory drugs, exercise alternating with elevation of the extremity and compression treatment are the effective measures.
Varicose vein surgery is often the end of this recurring complication!
Thrombophlebitis is often confused with thrombosis, i.e. deep vein thrombosis!
